On the night of September 28, 2016, the people of Gatlinburg and the surrounding areas were forced to evacuate their homes in the event of a wildfire. It was a life changing event for all who were effected, whether by losing their home, or losing their loved ones, it was a night of loss and suffering, that would last far into the weeks ahead.

The next morning Rapid Relief Team met at the Sevier County Economic Center offices and worked with them to coordinate the incoming donations and distributions to the evacuation centers. The RRT team was located at the Sevier County Convention, and Leconte centers.  The volunteers worked endlessly to sort and distribute clothing and supplies to the families in need. That night, the RRT team met at the Sports Complex and worked on distributing drinks, snacks, refreshments and provided and served a meal to the firefighters.

RRT Ready For The Next Group of Firefighters

Firefighters were welcomed to the sight, after working many tiring hours, in unpredictable and dangerous conditions. They were made comfortable and were asked many times throughout the night if there was anything they needed or wanted. Upon their request, they were provided with whatever they needed. Some of the firefighters claimed they were undeserving of the attention, but as a team, care was provided for some of the greatest heroes that night.
