Throughout May, Rapid Relief Team (RRT) volunteers across New Zealand came together to deliver a message of gratitude – in celebration of International Nurses Day.

RRT hosted 38 appreciation events at hospitals across New Zealand, from Kaitaia to Invercargill. A total of 647 volunteers rolled up their sleeves, fired up the grills, and served 22,517 freshly cooked Signature Burger meals to our nation’s healthcare heroes.

These New Zealand-based events were part of a wider global initiative, where more than 45,000 meals were served by RRT teams worldwide. That’s 45,000 opportunities to say thank you to the selfless individuals who show up every day for their communities.

"Dear Rapid Relief Team, I just wanted to take a moment to extend our heartfelt thanks for the beautiful food you provided for International Nurses Day. It was an especially busy (and freezing!) day for us, and being treated to a hot meal and drink—served by such friendly and welcoming faces—truly lifted our spirits."

Our mission at RRT is to serve hope in times of need — whether through emergency response or moments of appreciation like this one. International Nurses Day gave us a chance to pause, reflect, and give back to those who give so much of themselves to others.

To every nurse, doctor, and hospital staff member — thank you. Your compassion, resilience, and care make a world of difference.
