On November 3, 2017, RRT volunteers from Woodstock provided a free Barbecue lunch at Operation Sharing.  This local charity provides services to community members in the area that are in need.  Operation Sharing is an organization that has been in operation for over 30 years and supports approximately 2500 people per month that live in the Oxford County area.   This agency offers many different programs that support and set forward the impoverished.

RRT Volunteer’s Grilling

The soup kitchen is open every weekday from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. daily through the colder months of October through May, and during the warmer months it is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  The shelter welcomes males and females over the age of 16.  Through the Books for Birthdays program, children ages 1 -12 receive a book for their birthday.  Families experiencing financial hardship can get one on one assistance through this agency’s Expense Planning program where patrons receive the help needed to create a plan that helps them pay bills and save for things they want.  This is just a few of the amazing programs this foundation offers to the less fortunate citizens of this area.

Enjoying The Meal Provided By RRT

At around 9:30 in the morning, the Woodstock RRT volunteers arrived with the RRT cooking trailer.  The team started right in setting up the BBQ, tent, and tables.  The hamburgers and hotdogs were started on the grill and by 11:30 the lunch was ready to be served.  The meal that RRT provided consisted of the grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, served with condiments, chips, and water.

RRT Volunteer’s Kind And Friendly Service

Approximately, 50 people that come to Operation Sharing on a regular basis were served the BBQ meal in about an hour served by the friendly Woodstock Rapid Relief Team.

The day went well, and when the meal was over, the volunteers cleaned the trailer, packed up whatever food wasn’t used, the tent, tables, chairs, and left satisfied that they were able to help those in need in some small way.
