On Saturday, December 16, 2017, members of the Rapid Relief Team from London, Tillsonburg, and Woodstock, prepared and served a meal for 78 guests staying at the Ronald McDonald House in London, Ontario.  The Ronald McDonald House Charities has been considered a home away from home for families with children who are undergoing treatment at the Victoria Hospital since it opened its doors in 1985.

The hamburgers are ready to go on the BBQ!

It was -6 °C but the RRT was ready to BBQ the hamburgers and sausages outdoors!  Many of the house guests were very pleased with the hamburgers. Some of the guests have travelled from great distances and will stay at the house for weeks at a time. One commented “This is great to have BBQ hamburgers, its taste of home!”  The grilled hamburgers and fresh fruit were a nice change to the menu, especially in the middle of winter.

Preparing the fruit to go along with the meal!

The Rapid Relief Team arrived at the Ronald McDonald House at 3:00 p.m. to start preparing the meal. It was a team of 9 to put on the meal for 80 guests and it went great! The meal was served at 5:30 p.m. and by 8:00 p.m. the kitchen was cleaned up and ready to serve its next meal.

The managers at the Ronald McDonald House have come to know the Rapid Relief team very well and enjoy the way they all work together. One commented when she came in and saw it was the RRT serving the meal “Oh, it’s you guys, we’re going to have a fun time tonight!” There were many positive comments about the meal and many were thankful for the support of the London, Tillsonburg, and Woodstock RRT volunteers.
