Perth RRT Helps at June 25 Kilt Run For The MS Society

Saturday – June 25th 2016. Thousands of people squished up for their spot behind the starting line. “BANG!” The starting guns fired! The runners shot off the starting line at full speed. The record-setting 2016 Kilt Run of Perth, Ontario, Canada had officially begun!

Not long after, the first runners came charging past the finish line, followed by throngs of weary participants in the massive charity run to raise money for the MS Society. This event raised over $40,000. Exhausted, thirsty, and in some cases, hungry. The runners all flocked to the side streets of Perth to find willing members of the RRT handing out water, ice, orange slices, and of course, the participants’ rewards!

The Perth Kilt Run raises funds for the MS Society and within the first three years of this event being in Perth, ON this event raised over $55,000. Also, Perth Kilt run recognized as “Perth’s World Record Kilt Run”

Further, members of the RRT were designated to create lanes on the road (used as the race track) to ensure the safety of the next set of runners whilst the seasoned ones sailed on by. And once the fastest had past, RRT members re-opened the lanes to make way for the cheering mob of kilted runners celebrating their achievement!

The Perth Kilt Run was conceived in October 2009 by Terry Stewart, after the Mayor of Perth (Canada) submitted a letter to the Perth Courier (Canada) requesting town residents to come up with an idea to help Perth (Scotland) celebrate their 800th Anniversary, and what a celebration! It set records Guinness records, and RRT was right there to support a strong finish!
