RRT volunteers from Brisbane were out in full gear on Friday (6th Nov) to support Queensland firefighters who cycled more than 700 kilometres to fund raise for children who suffer from burn-related injuries.

The Bike 4 Burns event took place at Queensland’s Murarrie Criterium cycle track and saw 30 local firefighters cycle for 12 hours to raise money for the Children’s Hospital Foundation to treat children with burns injuries and research the most effective treatment for childhood burns and scar management.

To keep the ride participants fueled on their lengthy cycle, RRT volunteers served up breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the course of the event.

Stephen Taylor, Local Team Leader (LTL) for RRT Brisbane, said the RRT volunteers were humbled to support such an important and relevant cause.

“After the devastating bush fires earlier this year, we know very well how real fires are and how horrific the impacts can be,” he said.

“Our army of volunteers operate from the heart to serve people in need and that is exactly what Bike 4 Burns was all about.

“We hope that our humble contribution alleviates some of the ongoing stress for families with victims of burns,” he said.

Gordon Hemphrey President of the Bike4burns association shared his gratitude for RRT’s support.

“Since 2007, Bike4Burns has raised more than half a million dollars for research into the most effective treatment for childhood burns and scar management,” he said.

“Today’s event was a great success; it is estimated that we raised over $30,000

“This success would not have been possible without RRT who ensured ongoing food, fuel and support for the amazing firefighters,” he said.

RRT is humbled to support this important and influential cause.
