The Tauranga Kai Aroha voluntary charitable group has been feeding the chronic homeless, the elderly, families, and individuals that just need that extra meal to get them through the week every Friday for the last 3 years. It all started with founder Tania Lewis-Rickard handing out soup to around 20 people she saw were “living it tough” in 2016; since then the number of people in need of their free meal has grown every year, through the ever-growing housing crisis in the area.

The Kai Aroha team set up tables and chairs in the hall for the community to eat together in the warmth.

The Rapid Relief Team volunteered to feed everyone at the Greerton Community Hall on 26th July, to give the regular volunteers team a night off and a chance to mingle in with the community. RRT donated and served 100 burgers and drinks, followed by dessert between 6pm-7pm. The crowd was very appreciative  of RRT’s food, and gave us a great cheer, along with their happy birthday song for one of the attendees.

RRT really enjoyed serving the community in need alongside Kai Aroha, and taking part in the fun and energy they shared.
